How to Get Here

By Road

Crestone is located in south-central Colorado, on the eastern margin of the San Luis Valley, which is the largest topographic basin in the Rio Grande rift zone. (Southwards the San Luis Valley merges with the Taos Plateau). Once you arrive in the Valley, get onto Colorado Highway 17, a 2-lane paved road that travels north-south through the valley. Drive to Moffat, Colorado, in the northern part of the Valley, then turn east (toward the mountains) onto Saguache County Road T. Drive east 12 miles on Road T to the town of Crestone (population 100). Once you get into the trees, watch out for deer. Once in Crestone, drive to “downtown”, that is, the corner of Alder Street and Galena Avenue. Turn right and drive east (uphill, toward the mountains) on Galena Avenue. The road soon turns to gravel. Proceed 0.4 mi east of downtown, and look for the CSC driveway on your left (600 Galena Ave.). If you get to the BLM or Forest Service signs, you’ve gone too far.

By Air

United Airlines flies into Alamosa, Colorado (ALS) three times a day from Denver International Airport (DEN) (see Flight Schedules). Alamosa is located in the central San Luis Valley, 50 miles (by road) south of Crestone. We will pick you up at the Alamosa airport, if you give us sufficient advance notice.

You can also fly into major regional airports such as Denver International Airport, or Colorado Springs Airport, but we won’t come get you then. You will have to take a Denver RTD “SkyRide” bus from the airport to the Denver Bus Center, then take a Greyhound bus from Denver to Alamosa (see Bus information) or rent a car and drive to Crestone (see directions By Road).
