For 2 weeks in June, a mixture of university
graduate students, government geologists, and consultants attended the 2nd
annual offering of the Field Course in Neotectonics and Paleoseismology. Here
are a few glimpses of our activities.

At sunset, the place to be is on the CSC roof. Instructor Jim McCalpin (CSC) points to Patty Craw (Alaska Division of Geology & Geophysics), who displays her ambidextrous abilities. From left to right, Mike Hylland and Greg McDonald (Utah Geological Survey) and Mike Neville (Mesa State College) try to ignore her bad example. Photo courtesy of Bill Lund.

The computer lab at CSC, where field data are
entered into the GIS. Student laptops are networked with the CSC server. From
left to right, Patty Craw, Greg McDonald, Yoshihiro Uemura (in background,
Bukkyo University, Japan), Mike Davis (AGEC, Salt Lake City), and Jim McCalpin
(head in hands, wondering where he went wrong in life). Photo courtesy of Bill
Lund.

On their day off, some attendees preferred to
escape into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (that is, the horst bounded by the
Sangre de Cristo fault). From left to right, Yoshihiro Uemura, Patty Craw
(hamming it up again), and Bill Lund (Utah Geological Survey). Photo courtesy

The shoring crew at Trench C, wondering what to do next. From left
to right, Gerald Park (Park Geological Consulting, Salt Lake City), Bruce Eloff
(Stantec Consulting, Salt Lake City), Mike Neville, Patty (The Hambone) Craw,
and Greg McDonald. Beautiful virgin shores provided courtesy of Mike Machette,
